Linda Hankins Scholarships
Dreamland School of the Arts is now accepting applications for its new scholarship program, which offers two local youngsters the opportunity to receive free music lessons for a year. The Linda Hankins scholarships will grant each child one year of free lessons toward the study of any instrument taught by a Dreamland teacher, subject to availability, and represent a retail value of over $1000.00 each.
Linda Hankins was an elementary school teacher who taught at Buckhorn Elementary and Red Rock Elementary in the 1990s, and whose teaching was distinguished by her passion and encouragement for children’s creativity.
To be eligible, children must be between 5 and 15 years of age by December 31, 2015, and must be willing to commit to a moderate lesson and practice schedule, consisting of a half-hour a week of lessons and a minimum of 15 minutes a day of practice. There are no lessons in July and August.
To enter, the child must submit a letter up to one page about what creativity means to them. Parents are allowed to help, but the ideas should be the child’s own. The letters will be read by the teachers at Dreamland School of the Arts, and provided there are enough quality entries, two children will be offered scholarships. Dreamland especially encourages applications from families who may not otherwise have access to music lessons.
Submit applications to email@example.com or by mail to Dreamland School of the Arts, 1010 4th Avenue, Prince George, BC, V2L 3J1, postmarked by February 7, 2015. For an application to be considered complete, it must have the child’s letter, the child’s first and last names, at least one parent or guardian’s first and last name, a phone number, an email address, and a mailing address. One entry per child will be considered.
Dreamland thanks all applicants for their interest, and wishes them well!
Linda Hankins Scholarships are not transferable, refundable, or exchangeable, and have no cash value as such; they are provided without warranty of any kind; and are subject to Dreamland’s policies. They are valid only for lessons in the 2016 calendar year, and may be withdrawn if the student fails to maintain an adequate lesson or practice schedule, within reason. Although there is no performance expectation, the quality of the child’s commitment to their course of study will be subject to periodic review. Dreamland reserves the right to withhold scholarships for any reason. By accepting a scholarship, parents or guardians consent to the use of their child’s name and likeness for Dreamland’s promotional purposes without limitation.
Dreamland does not provide musical instruments, but if access to an instrument would be an obstacle to accepting a scholarship, Dreamland is willing to consult with parents or guardians about securing access to an instrument.
